About Camp Check
Camp Check builds a packing checklist for one specific hike or campsite, based on its elevation, water, season, permits and terrain.
Where the facts come from
Distances, elevations, seasons and permit rules come from National Park Service, Forest Service or Recreation.gov pages, and every spot page links its sources. Where we give our own view, like the best season, the page says so.
Map data
The map's terrain is real elevation from the Terrain Tiles on AWS dataset (Mapzen/Tilezen, hosted by Amazon Web Services), which combines USGS 3DEP (formerly NED) and NOAA ETOPO1 elevation data, among other sources. Heights are exaggerated so the relief reads at country scale. When you zoom in, the map streams more detailed tiles from the same dataset.
How gear is picked
Each suggested product is a real Amazon listing that we checked for price, stock and an image before it went on a page. We recheck links every week.
Affiliate disclosure
As an Amazon Associate, Camp Check earns from qualifying purchases. Links to Amazon are affiliate links. You pay the same price.
AI disclosure
We draft pages with help from AI tools. A person reviews them, and facts and products are checked against the sources linked on each page. If something is wrong, it's our mistake, and we'll fix it.
