Alkali Flat Trail packing checklist
A strenuous 5-mile out-and-back over steep gypsum dunes to the edge of the Alkali Flat, the dry bed of ice-age Lake Otero. There is no shade, no water and no trail you can see, only red marker posts, so heat, wind and getting lost are the real risks.
