### Before you go

* **Check conditions.** Closures, weather, fire danger and trail status change. Look at [NPS Yellowstone: current conditions](https://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/conditions.htm) the day you go. The road from Madison to Old Faithful, which passes this trailhead, is open to cars only through Oct 31, 2026. Wildland fire danger was still listed as HIGH on Oct 19, 2026.
* **Tell someone your plan.** Where you’re going, who’s with you and when you’ll be back. [NPS: leave a trip plan](https://www.nps.gov/articles/hiking-safety.htm)
* **Know when to turn back.** Turn back if parking is full and you cannot park legally, if a storm builds, or if you feel sick in a thermal area. Stay on the trail; off-trail travel in hydrothermal zones is prohibited.

This list is a starting point, not a guarantee. Conditions change, so adjust it for your trip and your group.
